What is Meshtastic?

Long-range, off-grid messaging β€” no towers required

Meshtastic is a free, open-source project that turns affordable LoRa radio hardware into a fully encrypted, off-grid mesh communication network. You don't need a cell tower, internet connection, or subscription β€” just a small radio device and the Meshtastic app on your phone.

Each device in the network acts as both a sender and a repeater. When you send a message, it hops from node to node until it reaches its destination β€” potentially covering many miles across terrain that would kill a cell signal.

Originally built for hiking and outdoor adventure, Meshtastic has grown into a serious tool for emergency preparedness, community resilience, events, and amateur radio operators. The hardware is cheap (often under $30), the software is free, and the community is global.
